Activities for Asynchronous Learning
Asynchronous Learning is an important feature of successful online learning programs. The word "asynchronous" means not keeping time together, which refers to students working and learning outside of F2F or live stream class time. Students in asynchronous learning should be able to demonstrate what they've learned, and communicate with classmates and instructors on their own time--they don't have to be in the same classroom or even in the same time zone to participate.
Here is an example. Students will watch the video and record their observations in the blue box. I have inserted a text box for students to write their answers in next to the video.
Asynchronous learning allows for flexibility for non-traditional learners and easily accommodates different learning styles, as students can often "choose their own adventure" when it comes to the order they wish to cover material and how deep to dive into a given topic. Asynchronous Learning is often called Location Independent Learning because students can access the course from anywhere in the world thanks to the internet.
As a teacher, you will want to provide meaning full asynchronous learning activities. It should not be busy work! It should be an opportunity for students to practice what they have been taught previously in other teaching formats. It should be challenging enough to be interesting, but not so difficult that students cannot complete on their own.

I like to use Google Interactive Slides for asynchronous learning activities. They are free and easy to make and the kids love them.
